Summary

The International Federation of the Red Cross is a federation of humanitarian agencies located almost in every country of the world. Starting in the mid 90s, they are in a process of strategy reformulation and organisational change due to the altered panorama. The case provides an example of the challenges an organisation with internal contradictions and paradoxes and external constraints has to face.

Teaching objectives

Decision making in situation of ambiguity, constrictions and competitive obsolescence. Managing emotions (motivation, shared values, sufferance, fear, confusion) to manage human capital. Managing situations which are hardly manageable.
