This case study describes the transformation of the Indian plant of Whirlpool. It focuses on the introduction of the Whirlpool production system including, amongst others, quality management and supply management. It addresses the question of how Whirlpool can turn this plant into a world-class operation.
The case can be used in a module on internationalisation of operations. It addresses specifically the issues of producing in India. It can be used in conjunction with a case written about the Pondicherry plant focusing on entry strategies in India (Whirlpool: The First Venture into India).
