Storm Clouds over Taiwan (A)

The case explores the historical origins, dynamics and recent evolution of the triangular conflict between China, Taiwan and the U.S.A. over Taiwan’s relationship with the Chinese mainland following Taiwan’s election of a pro-independence candidate as president in March 2000.

To identify the forces, internal and external, shaping the policies pursued by the three principal protagonists in the conflict and to analyse the relative probability of a cross-strait war or a peaceful reunification of China and Taiwan.
