In 2018, the government of Kenya launched a pilot universal health coverage (UHC) programme in 4 of its 47 counties, enabling access to health services for millions of people. UHC will be scaled up across the country based on learnings from the pilot, and reforms will be made to the national hospital insurance fund in order to establish a mandatory universal health coverage scheme.

The Kolo Nafaso programme was started in 2009 in Burkina Faso by AAK, a 140-year-old Swedish supplier of vegetable fats and oils. AAK created a direct link with the producers – women in West Africa who traditionally harvested shea nuts – and cut out the middlemen. The aim was to improve productivity and pay a fair price.

En Classe is an educational foundation operating in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), one of the poorest countries in the world, where nearly 61 million people live on less than $1.90 a day. Twelve million children do not attend school and only a quarter of those who do ultimately complete secondary education.

Unjani Clinics NPC, a non-profit organization which has a goal of improving access to primary healthcare in South Africa, has grown exponentially from six pilot clinics to 54 clinics nationwide.
